The gang
It was a wonderful sunny day in May. My daughter had prepared a very unique Mother’s Day event: A brunch-picknick! On an elevated table with benches, we had a right royal meal with a grandiose view overlooking the Rhine River. We had a really good time: my daughter, my granddaughter, my husband and I. It was simply beautiful.
Of course, my four-year-old granddaughter could not resist to climb on the slate wall right behind us and naturally her stuffed animal family had to take part in the adventure. And of course, her grandfather had to do all kinds of things with her. She also collected a stone and with this stone approached me. She declared that this stone is a gang sign of her (fantasy)gang. So, she handed me the stone and said: “You are now a member of my gang!” To which I asked: “What kind of gang is it?” “The best gang in the whole wide world!” she replied.
Wow! I was given the honor to be part of the best gang in the whole wide world!
When I think about it, I realize that through Jesus I’ve been a member of the best “gang” for a long time. Cause we – you and me – through the fact that we belong to Jesus are members of a very elite club of royal kids of an incredible awesome king and enjoy special rights. We can draw from him comfort, love, encouragement, correction, guidance and much more. From him who knows all and can do all things. We belong to a Heavenly father who loves us more than anything and has invited us into his gang aka family– together with all the other “gangmembers” who are just as weird and unfinished as we are. What an honor! I guess I should thank God for that once again …
